Survey to Assess Needs of Rural Nebraska Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Small businesses statewide are encouraged to take REAP’s small business needs assessment survey.

REAP is the Rural Enterprise Assistance Project at the Center for Rural Affairs.  Dena Beck, Senior Project Leader and Loan Specialist for REAP, created the survey in 2008, hoping to find out what products and services REAP could offer small businesses to help them.

Beck says though the survey started out as an internal review, it has become valuable to other groups across the state.  For example, she says area community colleges have shown interest in the survey results.

"So what’s nice about the data is we ask what county they’re from.  So last time Northeast Community College wanted some information so I could pull their trade area and how their businesses answered the questions.  It’s all aggregate data but I could pull certain counties or just the female-owned businesses, that kind of thing.”

Beck says the survey takes about six minutes to complete and is open to business owners, bankers, lenders and economic developers.
