Swine flu vaccinations underway in Omaha metro

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Vaccinations against swine flu are underway in Douglas County.

Health Department officials say 2,600 doses of the nasal spray vaccine against swine flu arrived Monday. Another 1,500 doses are expected later this week. Young people ages two to 24 years old will be the first to receive the vaccinations.

Resource Specialist Phil Rooney says children under two and pregnant women cannot get the nasal spray vaccine. It's intended for healthy people ages 2 to 49.

Rooney says the Health Department will hold a large-scale vaccination clinic late this month or early next month. Until then, he says people should call their family doctor or pediatrician to get a shot against swine flu.
