Tea Party Express rolls in to Omaha

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – A crowd of more than one thousand people turned out Thursday for the Tea Party Express Bus Tour stop in Omaha.

The tour arrived for a 90 minute rally at Lake Zorinsky. Patrick Bonnett of Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom organized the Omaha event. He says one goal of the bus tour is to dispel criticism that the Tea Party movement lacks diversity and spreads hate. Instead, he says the movement is about transparency, accountability, and simplicity in government.

Bonnett says fiscal conservatism is a key part of that message. He hopes the events help raise awareness about issues such as health care and cap and trade.

The Tea Party Express bus tour ends April 15th in Washington, D.C. Only one Iowa stop is scheduled, next week in Davenport.
