Omaha, NE – Omaha's newest council member will be seated next week.
Councilmen voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to appoint Thomas Mulligan to the District 7 seat. Mulligan, a Republican, will take over for Chuck Sigerson, who resigned in March for health reasons.
Council President Garry Gernandt said before the vote that choosing a replacement for Sigerson was difficult. 17 people applied and five interviewed.
Mulligan is a 39-year employee of Union Pacific. In a statement, Mayor Jim Suttle says "I have had an open door policy with all Council members and I extend the same to Councilman Mulligan. I look forward to working with him in resolving the many issues that face our City."
