Three candidates for Nebraska's Second Congressional District seat

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – With 14 months until the 2010 election, Nebraska's Second Congressional District race already has three candidates.

Wednesday, State Senator Tom White declared his candidacy for the Congressional seat that includes most of the Omaha metro area. Republican Matt Sakalosky is running for the Second District seat. So is the incumbent, Congressman Lee Terry. Terry was first elected to the Second Congressional District in 1998. He was re-elected last November in a close race with Democrat Jim Esch.

Richard Carter, Senior Adviser to the Terry Campaign, says they welcome the competition from Sakalosky and White. Carter says once voters have the chance to compare the candidates' records, they'll choose Terry.

Although the Republican Terry was re-elected last November to the Second Congressional District, the electoral vote tied to it went to President Barack Obama.
