Tornado-damaged school replacement discussed

WISNER, Neb. (AP) — Residents jammed a school board meeting for a discussion on how and where to build a replacement for a middle school damaged by a tornado in northeast Nebraska.

On June 16 an EF4 twister destroyed or damaged more than half the town of Pilger. The school had housed kindergarten through 12th grades until the local district merged with the nearby Wisner district in 1968.

The Norfolk Daily News says several people who spoke at the board meeting Wednesday night pleaded with the board to remember the promise made by the Wisner School Board in 1968 to always have a facility in Pilger.

The board made no decision and tabled further discussion until district officials know how much money to expect from insurance and disaster aid.
