Two confirmed flu cases in Douglas County

Two cases of the flu have been confirmed in Douglas County.

The Douglas County Health Department says two residents over 50 are the first two confirmed cases of influenza. One was hospitalized and both have recovered.

Health Department officials say everyone over six months old should get a flu shot. Pregnant women, young children, people over 65, and those with compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable and are urged to get a flu shot.

Flu season typically peaks in January or February. Anyone getting a flu shot this year has options---there are vaccines that protect against three strains, and ones that protect against four. Another is available for people allergic to eggs. The flu mist nasal spray is also an option.
