United Football League brings expansion team to Omaha

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Omaha is the home of the United Football League's newest team.

UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue announced the team Thursday morning. Omaha's team begins play this September at Rosenblatt Stadium and is the fifth UFL franchise. Huyghue says Omaha met all the criteria UFL officials set when considering expansion, including media market size, commitment to a new league and potential for growth.

Former Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski will coach the Omaha team. A naming contest is underway to choose from one of four finalists: the Mustangs, Stags, Navigators, or Spirit. Omaha will host four UFL games at Rosenblatt this season before the team moves in to the new TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce officials estimate the team will generate at least $10 million in new revenue each year for the city.
