United Way of the Midlands Announces Community Care Funding

More than $11.5 million in funding for 32 programs has been approved by the United Way of the Midlands Board of Directors.

This Community Care Fundis the non-designated portion of the United Way’s corporate campaign.

Shawna Forsberg, Director of Marketing and Communications for the United Way of the Midlands, says 32 agencies and more than 130 programs are funded from Community Care.

New this year, she says the United Way pulled together a group of 130 citizens from the community to help the organization make the funding decisions.

"So they took part in actually going out and visiting the agencies, learning about the programs and helped us make the decisions on which programs should be funded so it was a really wonderful collaboration with a dynamic group of volunteers.”

Forsberg says these volunteers reviewed the funding request applications, examined each program’s data and results and talked with service providers at each location.
