United Way of the Midlands awards $50,000 grant to Partnership 4 Kids

The United Way of the Midlands awarded Partnership 4 Kids a $50,000 grant for its Pathway Program.

Deb Denbeck, Partnership 4 Kids President, says the P4K Pathway program not only provides tools and support networks for students to achieve their academic goals, but it also provides hope.

Denbeck says the grant money will help programming at every level.

She says for kids in pre-kindergarten, P4K has a book buddy program where young people are read to every month and are given a new book to take home, along with activities.

"When we go in to serve in elementary schools, we serve every student in the school.  So we are in 12 elementariness in OPS.  95% of our students are in poverty so this is all about setting goals in reading, math and life skills.  The teacher sets the goals, the student works to achieve the goals and their mentor is their cheerleader and their support system.”

Denbeck says P4K Pathway helps students achieve their goal of graduating from high school and assists them in pursuing some form of post-secondary education.
