University of Nebraska combined enrollment up

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The University of Nebraska says enrollment at its five campuses has grown to the highest total in 20 years.

Total enrollment hit 50,705 this fall, a 1 percent increase over last year. Last fall the figures totaled nearly 50,200 students, a drop of 0.4 percent from fall 2011.

Enrollment rose 1 percent at the Lincoln campus, rose 3 percent at the Omaha campus, dropped 2 percent at the Kearney campus, rose 0.7 percent at the Medical Center in Omaha and dropped 9.4 percent at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.

University of Nebraska President James Milliken said in a news release Tuesday that a rise in freshman enrollment played a major role in the overall enrollment increase.
