LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Natural Resources is hosting a day of free activities for Nebraskans interested in severe weather and how it affects their lives.
The 16th annual Weatherfest and Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 16th at Hardin Hall.
Weatherfest will feature weather-related experiments, search-and-rescue dog demonstrations, and emergency management and storm chase vehicles. Participants can test their skills in front of a green screen and meet weathercasters from Lincoln and Hastings.
The Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium will include a storm-spotter training workshop at 2:15 p.m. Experts will discuss reasons for extreme Nebraska weather events such as flooding in May 2015 and analyze emergency management agencies' reactions.
The event is part of the Nebraska Science Festival that runs from April 15th to the 23rd.
