UNMC sends another medical team to Haiti

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Another team of medical personnel from the UNMC system should arrive in Port-au-Prince, Haiti Thursday.

The team includes eight nurses, two physicians, one pharmacist and one physician assistant. Their mission is to provide medical care to patients who've had surgery or infections.

Dr. Rubens Pamies, UNMC's Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, was part of the first group sent to Haiti. He says the Haitian people have shown great resiliency in the face of tragedy, by living in tents and attempting to resume their normal daily activities.

The new medical team will spend 10 days in Haiti. Two members of the first team remain in Port-au-Prince. They've assumed leadership roles at one of three hospitals.
