UNO adding degree programs in biomechanics, information technology

UNO plans to add four new degree programs this fall, as well as open a new center in the College of Business.

Starting next month, students can enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics, Master of Arts in Creative and Critical Thinking, or Certificate in Intelligence and National Security programs. The Creative and Critical Thinking Program is online-only.

UNO’s Biomechanics Research Facility opened two years ago. It studies patterns of human movement. Deb Smith-Howell, UNO’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, says biomechanics is an emerging field.

“UNO is a world-class leader with that. You know, two years ago this fall, we opened our biomechanics research facility. And we have this amazing work being done in biomechanics. And as they’ve done more work in it, we have recognized that there is a real need to have an undergraduate degree.”

Also being added is an Executive Masters Degree in Information Technology. Howell says students can begin enrolling in that program in the spring.

UNO also plans to open a Center for Real Estate and Asset Management in the College of Business. Howell says that Center will pull together existing activities, research, and teaching.
