UNO establishing scholarship in memory of Brittany Williams

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – The University of Nebraska at Omaha plans to establish a scholarship in memory of Brittany Williams. The 21-year-old Williams was shot to death January 20th while she was waiting in her car at a drive-thru in Omaha. Williams was a pre-nursing student at UNO, a Goodrich scholar and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

The University of Nebraska Foundation has set aside $5,000 for the Brittany Williams Memorial Scholarship. It'll be presented for the first time this coming fall to a student with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The student must also be either a Goodrich scholar or a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

A 19-year-old Omaha man is charged with Williams' murder, which authorities believe was a hate crime.
