UNO Graduate Students Offer Public Forum Tonight

A group of UNO graduate students focusing on Public Administration and Democracy class will present findings tonight on community violence and public health.

Karen Abrams, Chair of the Board of Directors for Policy Research and Innovation, says the students developed literature reviews for PRI.

The public and the PRI board will have the opportunity to weigh in on the students’ research this evening as they focus on two main issues important to PRI.

"One is what works in public schools, K-12, community school engagement practices.  And the second topic they looked at was community violence as a public health issue with a focus on the trauma experienced by urban inner city residents, in particular, people of color.”

Abrams says PRI hopes the research will open up an opportunity for community dialogue on both issues.

She says they would also like to see the concepts of community violence and community school engagement established as public health issues.

The free public forum takes place tonight from 5:30 to 8:10 at UNO’s Civic Engagement Center.  For more information, the website is prineb.org.
