UNO international relations expert discusses alleged Iran terror plot

By Katie Schubert

Omaha, NE – A UNO expert on international relations says an alleged terror plot by Iran to kill Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the U.S. is "bizarre and uncommon."

Details of the plot were announced earlier this week, along with the arrest of an Iranian-American in connection with the plan. Tom Goutierre is Dean of UNO's International Studies and Programs. He says it's possible the plot wasn't sanctioned by the government of Iran, but rather by a rebel faction of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard known as Quds.

Goutierre expects the plot will lead to more sanctions against Iran. He says the U.S. should act carefully in its response.

Authorities say the Iranian-American man arrested in connection with the plot had both U.S. and Iranian passports.
