UNO Library Extends Services to Offutt

The UNO Criss Library’s patron services staff had been talking for a while about doing something for the military members and civilian contractors from Offutt Air Force Base.

Dave Richards, Dean of Criss Library, says the result of those conversations is a new program that opens up checkout privileges to approximately 10,000 service members and federal employees at Offutt.

He says aside from just being able to check out books from the library, these patrons can also check out technical items like laptops, iPads and even selfie sticks.

"We can basically have these service personnel show us their ID, both active duty personnel as well as civilian contractors and we are going to give them full check out privileges here at Criss Library.  They just have to come on out here, show us their ID and we can go ahead and provide them with those services, the books and the equipment that we have to check out.”

Richards says offering services to Offutt is part of the continuing effort to make UNO a military-friendly campus.

In addition to books and technical equipment, they will also have access to computer labs and more than 275 searchable databases.
