UNO is Once Again Nation's Top University for Military Student Support

“Military Times” has named UNO the best four-year university in the nation for military friendliness for the second year in a row.

Mike Connolly is the director of UNO’s Office of Military and Veterans Services.  He says the criteria for the rankings become more refined and more rigorous each year, and it takes UNO a couple of months to gather and put together the information for the in-depth survey.

He says new this year, the survey added information on average earnings for military students after graduation.  Connolly says what sets UNO apart is its intensive focus they have on intervention with their students.

"We try to enroll as many students as want to enroll at UNO and then we are extremely focused on trying to learn as much about them and make sure it’s a smooth on boarding process to the university to try to keep as many enrolled to graduation as possible.”

Connolly says staff makes 300-400 calls to students each week to learn what types of issues or challenges they are having, so they can provide a response that helps them stay enrolled.

UNO recently announced a waiver of the University’s $45 application fee for military and veteran dependents.
