UNO waiving admission application fee for military and veteran students

Active-duty military and veteran students applying to attend UNO will have their application fee waived.

UNO officials say the waiver is retroactive, so military and veteran students who have already applied for admission this fall will be refunded their $45 application fee. B.J. Reed, Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs, says the idea came from the University’s veterans affairs office, Mav USO.

"We all thought it was a really good idea, there’s some financial implications for that, but we felt that it was the right thing to do, that it was sending a signal to those individuals that we want as best we can to make this a friendly and welcoming place."

The waiver will cost UNO $30,000. But Reed says it also demonstrates the school’s ongoing commitment to service men and women. To get the waiver, students must provide documentation.

UNO currently has about 1,100 military or veteran students.
