UNO’s College of Information Science and Technology will host the 2016 International Conference on Web Intelligence and the International Conference on Brain Informatics & Health, Wednesday, October 13th through Saturday, October 16th at the Hilton Omaha.
Dr. Hesham Ali, Dean of IS&T, says this year marks the first time the two conferences will be held together in one location.
Ali says Web Intelligence refers to the ways we can extract knowledge out of the mass of raw data available now on the web.
He says attendees will discuss ways to create tools that help users not only access the data but extract information from it as well.
The International Conference on Brain Informatics & Health focuses on the methods and tools penetrating different aspects of biomedical research.
Ali says this conference has specific focus in this domain: the brain.
"Cognitive science, neural science researchers, neural imaging. There’s a lot of data being collected now that deals with brain-related activities. A lot of research would be required in order to interpret this data that we collect and use it in order to advance science and help researchers understand probably the most complex organ that we have.”
Keynote talks for the Web Intelligence conference include Dr. Leslie Valant, a professor of computer science and applied mathematics from Harvard University. Dr. Stephen Smith, a senior investigator at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, will be a guest speaker at the Brain Informatics & Health conference
