UNO's Inaugural TEDx Event Takes Place Next Month

UNO will host its first TEDx event on Saturday, February 28th.  Ben Jager, Lead Organizer for the event, says speakers include a poet and a concert organizer.

Jager says the theme of the day is “Community.” He says the goal of the program is to show the many ways that community can be thought of, demonstrated and approached.

Jager says UNO recently held a dinner for those speaking at TEDxUNO so they could meet one another.

He says it was interesting to find out that most of them either knew each other or had heard of one another already, independent of the event.

"We brought these eight people to speak at our event, not knowing anything about them apart from they were experts in this area and it turns out there was already a lot of overlapping and connections.  And that was probably the coolest thing we didn’t plan for and it really drove home why we are doing this and the potential affect it could have.”

Jager says TED talks can sometimes be progressive, intellectual or esoteric but UNO felt the concept of community was something everyone could relate to easily.

TEDxUNO takes place Saturday, February 28th at UNO’s Strauss Performing Arts Center.
