USDA forecasts record corn harvest for Nebraska

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Nebraska farmers could harvest the largest corn crop on record this fall.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecast a corn harvest of 1.55 billion bushels. If that forecast holds, it'll surpass the record harvest of 2007.

Nebraska Corn Board Executive Director Don Hutchens says the USDA forecast is good news for the state's corn producers. He says it shows Nebraska farmers can do more with less land, fuel, and water.

Hutchens says a record corn harvest is also good news for Nebraska's ethanol industry.
