UWM's Day of Caring set for August 26th

Deidra Calloway, Director of Community Engagement for United Way of the Midlands, says the Day of Caring is a wonderful opportunity for people to come out and see what is going on related to agency work being done in the tri-county area.

Calloway says it puts the spotlight on the organizations who are doing the work to address the pressing issues in our community.

She says there will be many corporate teams participating as well as individuals who will work on a number of different projects in support of the agencies.

"Painting, doing some landscaping, even some filing and organizing.  There’s even an opportunity for some people to read books to children.  Again, it brings them out and gives them the opportunity to see everything up close.  They get to meet the staff and the folks that are doing the work, and really rolling up their sleeves to ensure that folk’s needs are being met here in the community.”

Calloway says there are approximately 51 projects that need to be completed.  Each one is listed on United Way of the Midlands’ website, UnitedWayMidlands.org/DayofCaring

Calloway says each project has a description including the length of time and number of volunteers needed to complete the task.

She says you just click the register button and go from there.
