VA of Nebraska-Western IA Awarded Grants

The VA of Nebraska-Western Iowa recently announced that community partners in the Omaha metro area and throughout the state were awarded grants totaling more than $2.7 million to help provide supportive services for veterans and their families.

Linda Twomey is the Program Director of Mental Health Specialty Programs for the VA of Nebraska-Western Iowa.

She says these grants will allow the VA’s community providers to work with veterans who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

"The purpose of the grant is to raise funds: rental assistance, transportation assistance, childcare assistance to rapidly re-house individuals that are currently homeless and to keep individuals housed who are at risk of becoming homeless because they have an eviction notice.”

Along with the money subsidy that veterans are eligible to receive through these grants, Twomey says they will also receive case management to help them get back on their feet and to alleviate any housing crisis they are experiencing.
