VA receives $7.5 million in economic stimulus funds

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Major facility upgrades are coming to Omaha's VA Hospital, thanks to economic stimulus money.

The VA of Nebraska-Western Iowa received $7.5 million in stimulus money. It'll be distributed among the medical centers in Lincoln, Omaha and Grand Island. More than half of the stimulus money is going toward two facility improvements at Omaha's VA Hospital.

VA spokesman Will Ackerman says one project involves remodeling the post-operation anesthesia care unit at the Omaha hospital. The second involves renovations to the radiology department to prepare it for the installation of PET Scan machine.

Ackerman says those projects will directly benefit the care of veterans and the quality of the hospital's environment. He says some additional planning is needed before work starts on those two projects.
