The VNA Senior Speaker Series continues with the prevention of falls

The Prevention of Falls is the subject of the next VNASenior Speaker Series event on September 9th.

Lauren Wright is a Physical Therapist and Rehab Coordinator for the VNA.

She’ll talk about reasons why we fall, what body systems are involved in balance, simple exercises to train your balance system and how to set up your home environment for safety.

Wright says the program is important because falls are the leading cause of injury or death among older adults.  She says one in three people age 65 and older fall each year.

"At the VNA we are focused on keeping people safe at home and getting them back into their regular activities after an illness or injury.  One of the more frequent reasons we are called into someone’s home is to treat the after effects of a fall, whether it happened out in the community or at home.”

Wright says she will also offer some tips to help people prevent the risk of falling.

The Prevention of Falls presentation takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th at VNA Headquarters, 125th and West Center Road.
