Von Maur shooting survivor continues to recover and returns to work

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Seven months after eight people were killed and four injured in a mass shooting inside the Von Maur store at Omaha's Westroads Mall, one of the survivors has returned to work there.

Fred Wilson was critically injured and still has a sling on his right arm. He says his recovery is slow, but progressing, and he can lift his right arm above the elbow. Wilson worked in Von Maur's Customer Service department and returned there in late May. He says returning to work was a way to restore some sense of what life was like before the December fifth shootings.

Wilson says his experience gave him even more appreciation for life. He says he lives in the moment and is much more conscious of moments.

A memorial now stands inside Von Maur to honor the eight victims of the shooting.
