Voter turnout for city primary election predicted to be 22 percent

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps predicts 22 percent of Omaha's registered voters will cast ballots in next Tuesday's primary election.

Phipps issued his prediction Tuesday. He says voter turnout for the city's Primary Elections usually only attracts Omaha's more activist voters.

If Phipps' prediction is correct, that means 53,200 votes will be cast in the Primary. In 2001, more than 60,000 Omahans vote in the primary election. Four years later, 41,000 voted.

Polls are open next Tuesday from 8 AM to 8 PM.
