"The Way We Worked" will tour the state beginning in September

“The Way We Worked” is an exhibit that will tour the state beginning this fall.

Humanities Nebraska has partnered with the Smithsonian Institution to offer the exhibition in several communities across Nebraska.

Mary Yager, Associate Director for Humanities Nebraska, says the exhibit was created specifically for small museums.

Yager says the Smithsonian knows smaller, volunteer run museums can’t afford the rental fee for a larger exhibit so they have designed these special ones.

She says “The Way We Worked” will focus on 150 years of work in America, covering everything from the kinds of work done to the people who have done it.

"And each of the locations in Nebraska really has its own interesting stories to tell whether it’s farming and ranching on the high plains or stories of the railroad.  Each community, in addition to having the national touring exhibit, will provide its own exhibit of local and state history of work and will also provide some special programming.”

Yager says “The Way We Worked” makes its first stop in Gering beginning September 16th.  Bellevue will host the exhibit from December 9th to January 7th at the Sarpy County Museum.
