Wayne, Dixon Counties need volunteers for tornado cleanup

Volunteers are needed to help with tornado cleanup in Wayne and Dixon Counties.

An EF4 tornado cut a 16-mile path Tuesday through those counties, and the town of Wakefield. Jill Brodersen is coordinating volunteers for the tornado cleanup. Brodersen says some residents have started cleaning up debris, but more help is needed.

"And now they’re at the point where we need large equipment, we need chainsaws, we need people to run those chainsaws, and start cutting the trees down and loading the debris and hauling the debris, and trucks to haul the debris. That’s the kind of help we need right now."

Broderson says 22 homes in Wayne County and 15 in Dixon County are uninhabitable.

Anyone interested in volunteering should call 402-287-2574, or 402-529-3249. Volunteers should be 19 or older, and wear work clothes, long pants, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes.
