W.C. Handy's Blues special to air Friday

Omaha, Nebraska – The composer of St. Louis Blues and many other timeless classics, W.C.
Handy didn't invent the blues, but he heard them in a deep, comprehending way.

"W.C. Handy's Blues", a one-hour special program, will air Friday afternoon on KIOS.

W.C. Handy is recognized for his legendary blues compositions that have become timeless classics.

Guests in the documentary include his grandson Dr. Carlos Landy, musicologist
Elliot Hurwitt, jazz historian Dan Morgenstern , and pianist Ellis Marsalis.

The program also features musical performances by Louis Armstrong , Eubie Blake, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Ray Bryant , Paul Robison, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Duke Ellington, Bing
Crosby,Bessie Smith, Pete Seeger, Wycliffe Gordon, Sam Collins, Almeda Riddle.

The program is produced by Main Street Productions for Public Radio
International and is hosted by Ysaye Maria Barnwell.

"W.C. Handy's Blues" will air Friday February 16 at 1:00PM on KIOS.
