WeBop gets preview at Omaha Performing Arts

Nine children aging from 3 to 5 years old gathered on a carpet with their parents, all strapped with mini saxophones and drums in the Holland Center last week to learn about jazz music.

Their teacher, Tim Sullivan, came from New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center to introduce the WeBop program.

Omaha Performing Arts is the third performing arts center outside of Jazz at Lincoln Center to present WeBop to children and their families.

During the 45 minute kickoff session, kids learned how to do the downward dog, the names of a few famous jazz musicians and how to sing the ABC’s but with a twist.

Dominic Green, the community engagement manager for Omaha Performing Arts.

"It’s a great way for parents and kids to develop a love of jazz and appreciate what jazz music is and learn about jazz in a fun environment and hopefully they’ll become future jazz lovers.”

Green says there are still spots available for classes that will start September 6th. There are three different time slots to choose from.  Registration information for WeBop is available atticketomaha.com.
