Week of Service focuses on volunteerism
Next week is ServeNebraska’s second Week of Service.
The goal of the statewide initiative is to encourage Nebraskans to volunteer in their communities, according to chairwoman Jamie Moore.
"We are number five in the country for volunteering, and continue to remain in the top ten. We have more than about, approximately 500,000 people who volunteer yearly. And those hours translate in to over a billion dollars worth of service."
Moore says volunteer week events were held in 22 Nebraska counties last year. This year, the goal is for an event in all 93 counties during the Week of Service.
