Works Selected for Fontenelle Boulevard Banner Project

The Fontenelle Boulevard Banner Project is a partnership of the Clairmont Heights Neighborhood Association, the Benson-Ames Alliance and Omaha by Design.

Trudy Swanson, President of Clairmont Heights Neighborhood Association, says artwork from 10 local artists will be transformed into banners that will line part of Omaha’s Fontenelle Boulevard starting this spring.

Swanson says the banners offer people who use the area for recreation the chance to connect with art in a meaningful way.

She says a wide variety of styles and themes are represented in the pieces.

"We are still hoping to add sculptures too and the sculptures will line the boulevard also.  Each year we would like to have enough funding to put out a call for artists so that we can make new banners and install another sculpture every year, basically working towards the goal of creating an outdoor gallery."

Swanson says usually outdoor spaces that feature art only have sculptures but with the banners she says they are able to incorporate 2D artists into the project.

Swanson says the banners are the first phase of a larger effort to celebrate the importance of Fontenelle Boulevard.  The project page is located on Facebook at FontenelleBoulevardArtProject.
