You Drink, You Drive, You Lose

The Omaha Police Department is taking part in a nationwide campaign called, “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose.”

Sgt. Chuck Casey, of the Omaha Police Department, says officers will focus enforcement efforts on weekends at locations across the city.

Casey says the purpose of the campaign is to target drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol or both.

He says OPD receives money from the state that helps pay officers overtime to assist in these operations.

"Around the holidays it’s a common time for people to indulge and unfortunately, overindulge and then drive afterwards.  So we are going to be watching for those drivers that make poor decisions.  Hopefully they don’t and hopefully we can report some low numbers based on people making appropriate decisions.  But for the ones that don’t, we will be out there locating those drivers and again, take the appropriate action.”

Casey says there are plenty of options for those who want to celebrate.  When you’re done, take a taxi or get a ride home from a sober friend.

He says the Omaha Police Department wants to ensure a safe, holiday season for everyone.
