The Omaha Area Youth Orchestra’s Youth Symphony presents its Winter Concert Sunday at 2:00 in the Strauss Performing Arts Center.
Aviva Segall, Music Director for the OAYO, says the ensemble will present two classical masterpieces. She says the Youth Symphony will play Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony and a transcription of Bach’s “Fantasia and Fugue in C minor.” Segall says Mendelssohn was a fan of Bach and tried to bring that idea of counterpoint that’s in Bach’s music to the “Reformation” Symphony. She says the transcription the symphony will play was composed by Edward Elgar.
"The Bach-Elgar aspect of the “Fantasy and Fugue” is extremely important, because although it’s Bach, it’s very much also Elgar. Elgar rewrote some passages in the music and there’s a certain style to it that’s a reinterpretation of Bach in a much more romantic way.”
Tickets for the OAYO’s Winter Concert are available online at oayo.org or at the door the afternoon of the performance.
