For over thirty years, Jazz in the Afternoon has brought you mainstream jazz here on KIOS FM. Every Tuesday-Friday from 1:00-3:00PM Chris Cooke, Mike Jacobs and Gordon Spencer present the wide spectrum of jazz recordings dating back to the "golden age" of jazz in the 1920's through it's evolution in swing, bop, Latin and other styles right up to today's new releases. We also have a strong commitment to keeping you up to date on the local scene bringing you artists from the Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln areas and partnering with local non-profit organizations to publicize major jazz concerts in our area with music and interviews. Jazz Calendar (Updated 4 / 15 / 2014)

PROJECT Trio, www.projecttrio.com, with beat-boxing flutist Greg Pattillo, cellist Eric Stephenson and bassist Peter Seymour will perform in Omaha this week .  Known for performing classical music with a high-octane mix of jazz, hip-hop and rock, they will perform at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on April 19 at 7:30pm at the Straus Performing Arts Center.  Dedicated to music, the Trio will also conduct a chamber music clinic for middle, high school and college students earlier in the day.

An Interview with Wayne Shorter

Legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter will visit Omaha in April. He will perform at 7:30pm on April 2 at the Holland Performing Arts Center. 

The celebrated saxophonist, composer, bandleader and sideman in the Miles Davis 1960s quintet will bring his own quartet of pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade to Omaha.

2014 UNO Great Plains Jazz Festival highlights special to air on KIOS

KIOS kicks off Jazz Appreciation Month in April with highlights of the 2014 UNO Great Plains Jazz Festival with performances from area high school jazz ensembles. This special program airs Tuesday, April 1 at 8:00pm. The festival took place on February 21st at the Strauss Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
