2012 College World Series begins Thursday with opening ceremonies

The NCAA Men’s College World Series begins Thursday in Omaha with opening ceremonies.

It's the second CWS at T-D Ameritrade Park, and the 62nd Series in Omaha. South Carolina won the College World Series in 2010 and 2011. The eight CWS teams have open practices starting at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony is at 8:30 p.m. and features members of the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.

The first three College World Series were held in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Wichita, Kansas. The first CWS in Omaha was in 1950.

College World Series begins June 15

321,684 people attended the first College World Series at Omaha’s TD Ameritrade Park last year.

The Mens’ College World Series begins June 15. It’ll be the 62nd year of the College World Series in Omaha. This year, the first games begin at 4PM. That’s a change from the usual 1PM start.

Three exhibits coming to Omaha celebrate the history of the Negro Leagues

Jack Roosevelt "Jackie" Robinson became the first black player in Major League Baseball in 1947, when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Three exhibits coming to Omaha in May tell the story of the Negro Leagues.

“Discover Greatness” opens May 20th at Conestoga Magnet School in north Omaha. Discover Greatness uses a series of photographs to discuss the history and significant of the Negro Leagues. The exhibit is being presented in partnership with Omaha’s Great Plains Black History Museum, and the Kansas City-based Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
