OPS puts 2012-13 budget proposal online

The Omaha Public Schools board is set to vote in September on a new $481.2 million budget.

This year, the budget materials are online, along with committee presentations and a public comment section. OPS’ new fiscal year budget projects a six-percent increase in state aid, but no change in property valuations.

Douglas County Board continues budget discussions with new fiscal year approaching

Douglas County’s new fiscal year budget is once again up for discussion Tuesday.

County Commissioners will discuss the budget at their 9am meeting Tuesday. Two weeks ago, Finance Committee members grilled county department heads on their budget requests for the coming fiscal year, which begins July 1.

The County Board asked all departments to present flat budgets, and justify any requests for additional funding.

County Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the 2012-13 budget later this month.

Douglas County Sheriff: budget request is flat, but additional deputies are needed

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning says he stands by his department’s request for additional funding in the coming fiscal year.

County department heads presented their budgets at a Finance Committee meeting Tuesday. Douglas County’s new fiscal year begins July first. Commissioners asked all departments to present a flat budget.

Douglas County Board meets Tuesday to continue budget discussions

The Douglas County Board wants to hear from the public about its 2012-13 budget.

County Commissioners will continue discussions on the budget Tuesday morning at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center. Last week, board chairman Marc Kraft told Omaha Public Radio that all options are on the table in the coming fiscal year to raise revenue, including a possible tax increase. No decision has been made on that yet.

The current fiscal year budget of $311 million contains no tax increase.

Tax increase possible in Douglas County's new fiscal year budget

The Douglas County Board is starting the process of putting together a 2012-2013 budget.

Douglas County’s new fiscal year begins July 1. Chairman Marc Kraft says everything is on the table, including a tax increase, because the county has limited sources of revenue. “The major challenge is that we have limited ability to create income sources. Most of our income comes from either grants or from property taxes, and a small amount comes from fees we charge.”

Omaha Public Schools begins 2012-13 budget process

Omaha Public Schools officials don’t anticipate that budget cuts will be needed in the 2012-2013 spending plan.

OPS board members were updated Wednesday on the preliminary revenue forecast for the 2012-13 budget.  Assistant Superintendent Dennis Pool says that forecast shows OPS will receive$9.9 million more in state aid next fiscal year. State aid certification will happen in May.
