The Omaha City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a tax increment financing district in the area surrounding TD Ameritrade’s new headquarters.
The headquarters is in Omaha’s Old Mill area, south of 114th and Dodge Streets. TD Ameritrade officials say the TIF is needed for five-million dollars worth of infrastructure improvements. City Councilmen previously declared the area blighted.
Douglas County Commissioners oppose the TIF district, saying the revenue will only benefit the city of Omaha.
An Omaha educator says he hopes the College for Kids program can expand and offer more opportunities to young men.
Paul Bryant is the former executive director of Wesley House. He also leads an organization called the Leadership Institute for Urban Education. For the past two years, Bryant has worked with young black men from north Omaha on leadership, business, etiquette, and public speaking. Saturday, the 25 young men in the College for Kids program at UNO will present financial portfolio proposals to a panel of business experts.
A survey of supply managers in nine states shows the economy is growing, in spite of continued troubles at the national level.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the Mid-America Business Conditions survey. The Business Conditions Index, an overall indicator of economic health, climbed to 60 in April. A number above 50 indicates economic growth. Goss says healthy agricultural and manufacturing sectors are to credit for the growth.
