On the last day of June, the latest the College World Series ever ran, Coastal Carolina defeated Arizona, 4-3, to win the first national championship of any kind at its school.  Omaha Public Radio’s Greg Echlin has the story.

Brian O’Connor finally got to enjoy a national championship close to his roots.  The head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers orchestrated a surprising result with a clinching 4-2 victory over Vanderbilt.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Surprise starter Adam Haseley and Josh Sborz combined on the shutout, senior utility man Thomas Woodruff drove in two runs, and the Cavaliers defeated Vanderbilt 3-0 on Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all game in the College World Series.

The scenario at the College World Series is the same as it was a year ago: Vanderbilt beat Virginia inGame One of the title series. It’s up to the Virginia Cavaliers to bounce back, which they did a year ago.

Before tonight’s game at TD Ameritrade Park, the late Lou Spry will be recognized.  The former NCAA executive, connected with the College World Series since the 1960s, died in March at his home in Louisiana.  He was 78.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — John Norwood's home run in the top of the eighth inning gave Vanderbilt the lead, and the Commodores beat Virginia 3-2 on Wednesday night for their first national championship.

The College World Series begins Saturday in Omaha, with opening ceremonies Friday evening.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Lambert Bartak, the organist who entertained Rosenblatt Stadium's baseball fans for more than half a century during the College World Series, has died. He was 94.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Pat Valaika's two-run double gave UCLA some cushion, record-setting closer David Berg survived a rocky ninth inning and UCLA defeated top-seeded North Carolina 4-1 Friday night to move to the championship round of the College World Series.

Of the four teams left at the College World Series, only one of them has won it in the past.

When Aaron Slegers took the mound Wednesday night for Indiana at the College World Series, the most often asked question was why at 6-foot-10 he’s playing baseball at Indiana, not basketball.

The history of the Negro Leagues and some of its greatest players are featured in three exhibits that are on display in Omaha.

The theme from the opening round of the College World Series is: Don’t bet on the favorite.

Though one Cinderella team is out at the College World Series, the other one has pulled off an upset.  The Kent State baseball team held off the University of Florida, 5-4, Monday night to remain alive in the double elimination tournament at TD Ameritrade Park.  

In the late game, Arkansas beat South Carolina 2-1. The Gamecocks won the College World Series in 2010 and 2011.

Day four of the NCAA Mens College World Series begins at 4PM.

There are two games at TD Ameritrade Park Monday.  The first is Florida and Kent State. Kent State is one of two first-time participants in the College World Series. The other, Stony Brook, lost Sunday.

At 8PM, Arkansas plays South Carolina. The Gamecocks won the College World Series in 2010 and 2011.

This is the second year of the Series at TD Ameritrade Park.

Three exhibits coming to Omaha in May tell the story of the Negro Leagues.

“Discover Greatness” opens May 20th at Conestoga Magnet School in north Omaha. Discover Greatness uses a series of photographs to discuss the history and significant of the Negro Leagues. The exhibit is being presented in partnership with Omaha’s Great Plains Black History Museum, and the Kansas City-based Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
