Republican Tom Latham opened his Council Bluffs campaign office Friday afternoon. Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District was eliminated after the 2010 Census and redistricting. Voters in Pottawattamie and Mills counties are now in the Third District.

One is financial adviser Brett Lindstrom. UNO mathematics professor Jack Heidel and former Douglas County Republican Party Chairman Glenn Freeman are also running for Congress.

The Sierra Club of Nebraska is sponsoring a candidate forum Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Omaha. The forum will focus on environmental issues and public transportation. Democratic candidates Gwen Howard and John Ewing, and Republican candidates Jack Heidel and Glenn Freeman, will participate in tonight’s forum.
