Walmart Supercenter coming to north Omaha

A new Walmart Supercenter will open next year at 50th and Ames Streets.

A new Walmart Supercenter in north Omaha is expected to create 275 jobs when it opens next year.

Walmart and city officials announced Monday that the Supercenter will be built at 50th and Ames Streets. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year. Mayor Jim Suttle says the project is important to north Omaha’s quality of life, as it'll provide a place for residents to buy household items, fresh fruit and vegetables, and other goods.

Suttle says he’s encouraged by the growth along the Ames corridor in the past year from 30th to 72nd Streets.

Study shows $729 million economic impact from Midtown Crossing development

A new study shows Omaha’s Midtown Crossing generated more than $26 million dollars in tax revenue for the city and state over the past five years, with an overall economic impact of $729 million during that time.

Task Force to study solutions to substandard housing, problem landlords

 

The city of Omaha is forming a task force to study solutions to problem landlords and poor rental housing.

Kevin Denker, Chief Housing Inspector for the city of Omaha, says his department has 4,000 active complaints they’re investigating. Some of those are multiple dwellings in one building. Denker says the Housing Division gets about 120 complaints a month. That number rises to 180 in the summer.
