Douglas County Board opposed to legislation ending inheritance tax

Douglas County Commissioners say taxpayers could be forced to pay more if the state of Nebraska does away with its inheritance tax.

During his State of the State address, Governor Dave Heineman told lawmakers he wants the inheritance tax to end. The inheritance tax is based upon the fair market value of a property at the time of a person’s death. The amount of tax paid varies depending on the relationship between the deceased and the person who inherits the property.

Jobs, Keystone XL, health care among topics at first Congressional debate

 

Jobs, immigration, and foreign policy were among the topics in the first debate of the Second Congressional District race.

 Democratic candidates John Ewing and Gwen Howard debated Friday night at the Douglas County Democratic Party’s annual Truman Dinner. Ewing is Douglas County Treasurer. Howard is serving her second term as State Senator.

Gallup Chairman and CEO Jim Clifton and Gov. Dave Heineman to speak at the Chamber's Annual Luncheon

Omaha, NE – The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual meeting luncheon on Wednesday, February 1st.

David Brown is Chamber President and CEO. He says awards that'll be given out at the luncheon include the Chairman's Award of Excellence and Volunteer of the Year. He says the meeting is for anyone who's interested in how communities grow and what Omaha needs to do to make sure there are enough jobs here for future generations.

Brown says Governor Dave Heineman is one of two guest speakers at this year's luncheon.
