Iowa Gov. Branstad's brother fined by EPA for violations

2 killed in I-29 crash identified

MONDAMIN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in western Iowa have identified two people killed in a crash on Interstate 29 near Mondamin earlier this week.

The Council Bluffs Nonpareil reports that 18-year-old Salvador Valdovinos, of South Sioux City, Neb., and 59-year-old William Griffin, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died in the Monday crash.

Authorities say a pickup driven by Valdovinos went off the interstate around 6:50 a.m., overcorrected and crossed the center median, hitting the side of a northbound semitrailer in which Griffin was traveling.

Iowa agrees with EPA to boost farm inspections

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa officials have signed an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that increases the number of livestock farms routinely inspected, requires more farms to obtain permits, and more strictly enforces violations when manure leaks into rivers.
