Douglas County voters to decide on consolidation of two offices

Douglas County voters will decide in November whether the Assessor and Register of Deeds offices should be consolidated.

County Commissioners voted 5-2 Tuesday in favor of a proposal to merge those offices. It’ll go on the November ballot for voters to decide.

Douglas County asking for the public's help to design a new official seal

Douglas County is looking for a new official county seal, and Commissioners want the public's help to design it.

A contest is underway through August 15. Douglas County residents who participate are asked to design a county seal that includes the name and “1854,” the year the county was incorporated.

Commissioner Pam Tusa says right now, Douglas County has five unofficial county seals, but no background as to their origin or meaning.

Focus group to examine quality of health care veterans receive

A forum Wednesday in Papillion focuses on the health care needs of veterans.

The veterans’ focus group is one of 25 such meetings the American Legion’s System Worth Saving Task Force is holding throughout the U.S. At each location, they’re talking with veterans about the quality of health care they’re receiving, and if it meets their needs.

Omaha City Council to vote on LGBT anti-discrimination ordinance

After hearing more than three hours of testimony last week on an anti-discrimination ordinance, the Omaha City Council is set to vote on it Tuesday afternoon.

City Councilman Ben Gray introduced the ordinance. It bans discrimination against gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexual individuals in the workplace and all public places. Religious institutions, and organizations run all or in part by religious organizations, are exempt from the ordinance.
