Mayor Suttle announces a partnership to aid homeless veterans

There are approximately 1500 homeless veterans in Nebraska and around 200,000 nationwide.

A new partnership announced this morning would work to make Nebraska the first state to end veterans’ homelessness.  Mayor Jim Suttle and Mike Fornear of the Homeless Veterans Project, were joined by civic and business leaders to discuss the new project called “Vets Town.”

New apartments, community services facility planned for Siena/Francis House campus

Omaha’s Siena/Francis House plans to open 48 new efficiency apartments and a community services center.

A groundbreaking Friday morning marked the official start of the project on 18thStreet. The $7.2 million dollar project is set for completion in August. Siena/Francis House executive director Mike Saklar says the new apartments are for homeless people with disabilities. They’ll pay 250 dollars a month rent, with assistance available.
