Ceremony at Offutt AFB marks ANZAC Day

A ceremony Friday at Offutt Air Force Base marked the anniversary of a World War One battle that killed more than 10,000 Australia and New Zealand soldiers.

ANZAC day is a remembrance of an eight-month battle at the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. More than 8,700 Australian soldiers, and 2,721 New Zealand soldiers, died in the battle to capture what is now Instanbul, Turkey. Australia and New Zealand soldiers have fought alongside U.S. troops in every war since then.

LFS' 3rd Annual At Ease Lunch featured Medal of Honor recipient Sal Giunta

Lutheran Family Services’ 3rd Annual At Ease Luncheon featured a Medal of Honor recipient.

This year’s keynote speaker was former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, Sal Giunta.  Sgt. Giunta is the first living American serviceman to receive the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq or Afghanistan.  

Sgt. Guinta said he was happy to support At Ease, a program he said helps soldiers fighting for the freedoms all Americans enjoy.

3rd Annual At Ease Awareness Luncheon features Medal of Honor Recipient Sal Giunta

Omaha, NE – Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska presents its annual At Ease Luncheon on Monday, January 30th.

The event takes place at Omaha's CenturyLink Center. Bev Carlson is PR Director for LFS. She says At Ease is a program that provides therapeutic support and trauma treatment for active duty military, veterans and their families. Funds raised from the luncheon will go back into the program.

Freedom Award Nominations are due by January 16th

Omaha, NE – The deadline for nominations for the 2012 Freedom Awards is January 16th.

Retired Army Major General Walt Zink Chairs the Nebraska Employer Support to Guard and Reserve Committee. He says 15 employers are recognized with Freedom Awards each year. The three award categories are large employer, small employer and governmental employer.

Zink says the Freedom Award is the highest honor an employer can receive from the Department of Defense. These employers receive award for having a culture of support that goes above and beyond what the law mandates.
