Omaha, NE – United way of the Midlands established the Von Maur Victims Fund after the December fifth shootings that left eight people dead. As of Friday, December 14, $294,000 has been donated to the fund, which was set up to assist victims and their families. The United Way says donations have come in from the Omaha metro area and 33 states. A news release from the Midlands chapter says an advisory committee will work out a process and criteria for funding decisions. The first disbursement is scheduled to happen within a week.

Omaha, NE – Three victims of yesterday's shooting at Westroads Mall were taken to Nebraska Medical Center. Spokesman Paul Baltes says two patients were released last night. The third, 61-year-old Fred Wilson, has been upgraded to serious condition. Wilson underwent surgery last night after suffering a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Information on the Nebraska Medical Center web site (www.nebraskamed.com) says Wilson is a Customer Service Manager at Von Maur, where the shootings happened.
